Powering HS2
As part of the HS2 development we were awarded the civils works contract by National Grid Electricity Distribution to construct a new 132/33/11kv primary substation on a greenfield site in Water Orton, Birmingham.
The project works were successfully completed in close collaboration with the client and their electrical install contractors to ensure the demands of the project programme were achieved.
The works
- Site clearance and bulk earthworks.
- Piling works.
- Full substation compound including reinforced concrete structure foundations, precast concrete cable troughs, underground cable ducts and draw pits.
- 11kv switch/control room building and 33kv switchroom building.
- Metering building.
- 2 No. reinforced concrete grid transformer bunds, 2 No. 33/11kv transformer bunds, and 2 No. earthing transformer bunds.
- Electrical equipment support structures.
- Perimeter high security palisade power fencing and access gates.
- Surface and foul water drainage systems including underground tanks and soakaway units.
- Earthing works.
- Mechanical and electrical installation works.
- Tarmac access roads.
- Site finishes.
