Hornsea offshore windfarm connection
In connection with the Hornsea 1 and 2 offshore windfarm development, Siemens Energy approached us to provide the civil works to construct an extension to the existing GIS building at Killingholme 400kv Substation.
The project involved contractor design elements for the steelwork connections, overhead crane, and mechanical and electrical installations.
The location of the new extension adjacent to the existing live operational circuits required a strict segregation and traffic management plan which was developed and implemented successfully throughout the duration of the project works.
The works
- Bulk earthworks, including significant temporary works and shoring systems.
- GIS building extension, including reinforced concrete basement foundations and cable troughs to accommodate the underground cable entries, structural steelwork portal frame, insulated wall and roof cladding, and industrial doors.
- Installation of overhead crane.
- Penetrations and modifications to the existing building steelwork frame and cladding system to facilitate the GIS equipment connections.
- Mechanical and electrical engineering services installations.
- Insitu concrete reinforced cable trough system with GRP covers for the incoming feeder cables.
- Cable ducts and draw pits.
- Surface water drainage system.
- Modifications to the existing perimeter security power fence to accommodate the extended compound areas.
- New access roads including kerbs and drainage.
- Site finishes.
