Bridging the gap
As part of a network improvement scheme to the ABP Port of Immingham, Northern Powergrid had a requirement to install new high voltage cables across an existing tributary from the river Humber. We were appointed to design and install a new cable bridge to facilitate installation of the 132kv cables connecting to the nearby substation site.
In addition to the complexities of working adjacent to the tidal waterway, the works were carried out next to a busy access route to the port complex and adjacent to existing high pressure pipelines. We were commended by the client for the quality of the project delivery and our excellent safety performance.
The works
- Temporary access roads and engineered piling platforms.
- Installation of steel sheet piles to form cofferdams to the embankments.
- Construction of reinforced concrete abutment foundations, including integral cable access troughs and access stairs.
- Design, fabrication and installation of the steelwork cable bridge including pedestrian walkway and sheet cladding enclosure.
- Underground cable ducts.
- Steel sheet security covers to the cable access troughs.
- Security palisade fencing and gates.
